Stormy Lake's waters are pure and clear. You can see to a depth of about 4 meters (13 feet). The lake bottom is earthen rather than sand which  gives the water its "black" look. Black is beauriful. The deepest spot is 25 meters (83 feet) just north of the island.
The main part of Stormy Lake is about 1 km (1/2 mile) in diameter. Our cottage is located on the north shore of Gusty Bay, the 1 km (1/2 mile) long arm that extends to the south east. The size is suitable for canoeing, water skiing, wind surfing and of course fishing for perch, bass and trout.

At an elevation of 380 meters (1250 feet) above sea level, Stormy Lake is the highest lake in the area, fed only by local streams. Even in a dry year the lake level varies only about 35 cm (14 inches) from spring to fall.
